Alexander Weinstein

"The wild near-future landscapes and technological premises of my fiction are the backdrop, but it's always human emotions that take the lead. The hearts of my characters are what makes the stories truly come alive."

Fascinating readers with his visionary fiction, Alexander Weinstein is an award-winning author, professor, and a captivating speaker. Since releasing his collection, Children of the New World, Weinstein has appeared in numerous publications, including Best American Science Fiction and Fantasy, Best American Experimental Writing, Rolling Stone, and World Literature Today, among many others.

Weinstein’s fiction explores near-future worlds where our everyday technologies have fundamentally altered our daily lives. He invites readers to think about what happens when technology becomes enmeshed with human existance and what is gained and lost by this intertwining. He explores these themes further in Universal Love, his follow-up short story collection, which examines the possibilities and limits of love in our increasingly digital world.

Kogonada’s After Yang (A24 Films) is an adaptation of Weinstein's short story, "Saying Goodbye to Yang," and is available on Hulu and Showtime. After Yang appeared on numerous "Best of" lists and was cited by Barack Obama as one of his favorite films of 2022. Filmmaker Lulu Wang will direct an adaptation of the short story Children of the New World, and Alexander is currently in development on two television adaptations of his stories.

When he is not writing or teaching, Weinstein presents at international venues like the PEN World Voices Festival, Shanghai International Literary Festival, The Copenhagen Writers' School, and universities throughout the US.
